Paphos (Pafos)
A curious mixture of worlds, Paphos is sometimes described as being divided into two halves. The division of this south-western city comprises Kato Pafos (lower Paphos) and Ktima (upper Paphos). The former is the more developed of the two, there are more crowds, more music, more bars and more luxury hotels (Cyprus has seen tremendous growth in recent decades, Paphos no less than anywhere else) than Ktima. Yet it also houses the most intriguing archaeological sites and it’s easy to forget the encroachment of the modern world as you explore them in the quiet of the day. Ktima, meanwhile, boasts a more traditional view of Cypriot life; with beautiful colonial architecture and regional food to enjoy, there is less of the hectic buzz that categorises an evening in Kato Paphos. Despite their differences, both offer a very real and undeniably exciting experience of modern Cyprus.
Limassol (Lemesos)
Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus, and holidays here offer attractions matched by few other resorts on the island. The nightlife is famously exuberant (some might say raucous), and the restaurants are second to none. Divided by a busy main road, north of which sit all the attractive cafes, shops and plazas, south of which is a long and popular local Mediterranean beach, Limassol is a vibrant centre of Cypriot life. Some may describe it as a little rough in parts, though it is never threatening. If you like your cities to have the undiluted flavour of life on their streets, then Limassol is not to be missed.
Pissouri
A charming fishing village turned resort, Pissouri is nevertheless a fine choice for your luxury holidays in Cyprus. Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, the modern town offers villas to rent along the beach or higher up on the hill, from which you can view mile upon mile of spectacular Mediterranean coastline. Located only 30km from Limassol, Pissouri offers a quiet, relaxed and beautiful alternative the more urban diversions of the regional capital. With around half of the residents being local Cypriots and the remainder being visitors from all over Europe and the world, there is an international flavour to the town, but certainly not to the detriment of its distinctly local character.
Kouklia
A small and famously beautiful village in the district of Paphos, Kouklia is surrounded by rich farmland that produces, amongst other things, grapes, olives, citrus fruits and avocados. While not an immediate choice for holidaymakers on the island (the luxury hotels of Cyprus tending to locate in larger towns), there are many fine villas to be found in the area, making it a great choice for those in search of something a little quieter and a little alternative, but with all the atmosphere that Cyprus is famous for.
Kyrenia
Kyrenia is famous for its picturesque stone harbour, filled with colourful sailing boats and overlooked by the imposing bulk of Kyrenia castle. A highlight on the itinerary of many Cyprus holidays, the town can suffer from overcrowding in the height of summer, but arrive at any other time of year and you’ll discover a delightful destination which combines the charm of the modern island with the arresting architecture of a past age. Unmissable in any extended trip to Cyprus.

First off let me just say that the buses in Cyprus aren’t brilliant. Unless you are on one of the main coastal roads or high ways you aren’t at all likely to be blessed with a bus service of any kind. You’ve decided to visit Cyprus for your next summer holiday and you’re day dreaming in anticipation of long, hot sunny days spent relaxing on a quiet beach with soothing, crystal waters lapping gently on the shore. Undoubtedly however, there will be many other tourists who have booked their holiday in Cyprus for the very same reason, so those beaches might not be so quiet after all.
So you can enjoy the relaxing holiday you deserve, we’ve listed some of the more tranquil beaches across Cyprus. You won’t have to compromise on beauty and you will be a lot less likely to have to share your beach towel! Read on for a pick of the best blissful beaches. Petra tou Romiou Beach
This stunning beach can be found just a short drive from Paphos. The rocks here form a sheltered lagoon and although it is mainly shingle here, it’s perfect for a dip in the clear ocean, relaxing in the sun and enjoying the scenery. Legend has it that the Greek Goddess of love, Aphrodite, rose here. For this reason, it’s also considered to be pretty romantic, especially at sunset.
Mansoura Beach
This beach is without a doubt the option for you if you genuinely want to get away from it all, but willpower is required to reach this treasure. It can be found near to Kato Pyrgos at the Greek Cypriot-Turkish Cypriot border down a long and winding but impressive road. It is a mission to reach, but you’ll be rewarded with a blissfully deserted and nearby, as an added bonus, you can sample some exceptionally fresh fish at the local taverna.
Lara Bay
Lara Bay is located on the Akamas Peninsula and is one of the last few places where green turtles return to breed. As such, access is restricted during high season. The area is also home to a nature reserve so you can really embrace Mother Nature and the plentiful flora and fauna. Access is difficult so it is advisable to book 4×4 hire at Paphos Airport nearby. It is a true haven here and so worth the journey!
“Relax” Beach, Pomos
Hidden away in front of the tiny Pomos fishing harbour, your eyes will fall upon the equally petite Relax beach in Pomos. The beach is usually populated with a few locals, but it’s a great place for a relaxing swim, and snorkelling is great here too. There are pebbles so sea shoes are advisable! You’re also rewarded with stunning views of the Troodos Mountains as a back drop.

Protaras, which is the main tourist area of Paralimni, is one of the prettiest areas of Cyprus and extends along from the Famous Fig Tree Bay and takes in all the areas of Pernera, Ayia Triada and Kapparis. There are numerous bays along this coast, with the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean and white sandy beaches. The area offers something for all ages, from water sports and activities to spending your days lazing on the secluded bays and ambling around the fishing harbors.
The busy resort of Ayia Napa is very close to all the villas to rent in Protaras, where duty free shopping and exuberant nightlife can be found.
The fascinating city of Famagusta is also very close to all Protaras villas, where you can not only see some beautiful examples of medieval architecture, but also see the staggering ghost town of old Famagusta, which was deserted overnight due to Turkish military occupation.
The magnificent beach of Fig Tree Bay slopes gently into the crystal Mediterranean Sea, and for sun-worshipers, there is very little reason to look further round the coast.
Along Protaras’ main beach you can find provisions for a vast range of water sports and equipment hire, including windsurfing, paddle boats, jet skis and scuba diving. Protaras is known as the resort with the best diving in Cyprus, as the fine beaches are surrounded by caves, canyons, reefs and the wreck of the Zenobia. Exotic and colorful fish are everywhere, and you can often see barracuda, needlefish and much more.
There are numerous walks along the cliffs and into the Troodos Mountains offering spectacular views of the coast, and in spring, the wild flora of Cyprus. A walk to the Church of Ayios Ilias is well worth the exercise, as this charming little church sits high above the town looking majestically over the coast.
There are also a huge range of boat trips from Protaras. Some take you further up the coast to the ghost town of Famagusta, or towards Cape Greco in the West where there are many trails, dive sites and hidden cove beaches, while others celebrate the fantastic deep sea fishing off Cyprus.
The nightlife of Protaras is good, with many bars and restaurants becoming louder as the night progresses, but the resort of Ayia Napa is so close that most of the more rowdy bars have not amassed in Protaras, leaving it as a more relaxed destination.

Cyprus is loaded with history and offers plenty of opportunity of getting immersed into the past as you ramble around the numerous ancient monuments and sites.
The Choirokoitia is a Neolithic Settlement site, 32 km from Larnaka town. It has been on the official list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1998 and is preserved much better than other sites from around this period. Though the site has been reconstructed, the authenticity of the place has been religiously maintained using the same traditional materials and methods of that period. The great thing about Cyprus is that its an Island so getting lost (unless you really try) should be quite hard. However it may be useful to get to know a little about the place before you actually arrive there. That way you could get a great deal more out of your holiday and maybe learn a little too. Although Cyprus is an Island it is a divided country since the Turkish invasion in 1974 when the Turks moved into the North of the country claiming it as their own. Selimiye Camii and the cluster of half a dozen or so buildings in this immediate area form the heart of old LEfkosa.They were nearly all originally Christian Crusader structures, converted by the Ottomans in the 16th century to Muslim or secular functions. Lefkosa was the gothic capital of the Lusignan kings, and they graced it with magnificent palaces, churches and gardens. Much was destroyed in pillaging through the centuries by Venetians Genoese, Egyotians and Turks, and earthquakes helped wreak the final havoc. (more…)

Athens has no shortage of banks and most around the centre are used to working with foreign exchange. All banks are open Monday to Thursday from 8.0.0. am to 2.0.0. pm. Beware – on Friday they close half an hour earlier at 1.30. pm and are closed Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. (more…)

The site lacks grandeur its setting, though raised up overlooking the bay, is a bit scruffy and uninspiring. The theatre is the only other monument to have been excavated besides the basilica, and has been rather over-restored.
The ticket kiosk is open 09.00-19.00 and about 45 minutes should be allowed for a tour. There are no refreshments available, and Soli is not a particularly good picnic spot. (more…)

When everyone thinks about Ayia Napa they just think about the clubs, the night life, lad’s holiday etc. yes, it is a party capital – there is no denying that – but it can be a great location for a family holiday.
Being that Ayia Napa is considered a party capital it may be better to look for place that isn’t situated in the city centre, it’d be better to be on the outskirts of the city to avoid all the excitement of the night scene – especially if you are with your family or an light sleeper.
