These events range from wine festivals, giving you a taste of the country’s finest vinos, to music, arts and cinema events. Koumandaria Festival
The sweet amber-coloured dessert wine Koumandaria is known as the ‘Sweet Heart of Cyprus’, and this festival taking place at the end of July and running in to early August acts as an ode to this delicacy. The festival celebrates a style of wine production that dates back to 800BC, and Koumandaria wine is the oldest identified wine still in production, with the name traveling back to the 12th century
The festival kicks off with free Koumandaria for all, along with Cypriot delicacies, then there are evenings of Koumandaria music, and presentations of the production of the wine. The festival is not only a celebration of Koumandaria wine, but the Koumandaria way of life and its people
Agia Napa Summer Cultural Stave
Taking place near the glorious Agia Napa harbour as the sun sets and the moon begins to glisten on the water. This festival offers some great evenings and performances, over August it’s programme is:
August 1: International Dance Meeting with “Kimon Xylotymbou” and other International Folkloric groups. At Agia Napa Central Square.
August 14: Cyprus Traditional dances with the “Vasilitzia” dance group. At Agia Napa Seferis Square.
August 15: “Vibrant songs, magical songs” Greek music and dances with the Cyprus Color Orchestra. At Agia Napa Central Square
August 22: “August Full Moon Night”, Greek Music and dances with Admitos Pitsillides music ensemble.
35+ Building Democracy
Taking place in the wonderful Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosai, this is an exhibition of politics and architecture. This exhibition features a groups of works to stand for the period of 1975-2008, showing the manner in which architecture is regulated by and reflects and interprets the Spanish constitution of 1978. The exhibition attempts to explicate between the antiauthoritarian cultural state and cultural commodities in modern Spain. The exhibition runs until advanced August
Lemesos Wine Festival
Every year, Lemesos, the wine capital of Cyprus, lives up to its reputation as a party town with its annual wine festival. Held at the town’s domestic gardens this party begins at the end of August and runs in to the beginning of September, and has executed so since first coming out in 1961
It began as a tribute to the wine making process, and has since developed into a full event of merry-making and traditional Cypriot delicacies, bringing in local residents and those from across the globe. This is one of the best imbibing festivals in Europe and for those that bask a glass of wine and plenty of acceptable company
The festival’s mantra is “drink wine to be healthy”
Cyprus International Film Festival’s
This film festival is consecrated to giving young constructive talent alive exposure on a foreign level. It covers the entire range of seeable media as utilized to film today, having little films, animation, and feature films
Entrants from all over the world have had their week shown here, from East and West. All in all the festival has now showcased pieces from 61 countries over the world, being seen by directors, producers and a range of industry professionals, as they vie for the Golden Aphrodite
